The Electro Wars

Have you noticed? Electronic dance music finally hit jackpot in the USA. For long the only "electronic dance" music in America was cheesy garage house and terrible trance and they carried a stigma of being 'gay' and 'drug-loaded'. But thanks to a bunch of influential hiphop dj's getting bored with hiphop and R&B, the US now finally discovered the other electronic music. Former hiphop dj's A-trak, Steve Aoki and others paved the way for electronic dance music with a cool attitude. A bit later came the whole Ed Banger and Justice craze and even Kanye West started sampling Daft Punk. Within two years all kinds of electronic dance blogs were poppin' up and spreading the new electro craze across America. Nowadays, the United States is at the forefront of a new electro revolution called 'Blog House' and there's no stopping it. (Although some say it's already in a downfall).

Documentary filmer Stephen Alex Vasquez saw this revolution happening 2 years ago and decided to assemble the "electro warriors" to document the scene and its way of working; how they spread the new tunes on blogs; how they remix the remixes and how they blend it all together. All this and more can be found in the forthcoming documentary The Electro Wars.

100% Pure Columbian Shit

From time to time I like to make some strange mixes for your listening pleasure. Recently I cooked together this highly addictive mix of disco-edits and nu-disco tracks. I hope you like it. (ps: it's downloadable)

For more disco-edit goodies check out this excellent Versionitis compilation with slick remixes and edits by The Revenge.
Those who prefer their grooves more slow and funky should definitely grab a copy of the Super Value - Super Funk compilation. The fattest rare grooves mixed together for that making babies mood!
If you like nu-disco stuff like Faze action, Todd Terje, Illja Rudman, then you should check out the second Future Disco Compilation (Part 1 & Part 2).
Or maybe you're more into some bangers like the new Crookers album Ton of Friends.

OK Go make a Rube Goldberg machine.

Did anyone see that new Gorillaz video? It was the video of the year for about half a day untill  OK Go released their stunning new one-take video for their next single. They just keep amazing with their videos. From the lowbudget treadmill YouTube hit, to the strange colour effects video, and now they've come up with the first ever Rude Goldberg music video. The "machine" was designed and built by the band, along with members of Synn Labs and it's an absolute monster! It's even sychronised to the music. The final video was filmed in two days and it took 60 attempts to get it right in one take and without any computer effects. Check out the making of videos if you're not convinced. Or for the real geeks, check out the presentation below by Adam Sadowsky, president of Syyn Labs, on how they planned and made everything.

These people are AFOL

So you're way over your twenties and you still play with LEGO blocks? Then there's a big chance that you're just an AFOL: an Adult Fan Of LEGO. Or a geek.

Now how can you not like LEGO? They have 'limited edition' Star Wars LEGO and top selling LEGO video-games like Indiana Jones or Rockband. And maybe you have that digital LEGO digital camera or the cool iPhone application. Or you're wearing LEGO JCdC fashion, LEGO jewellery, LEGO sunglasses or LEGO watches. Why not live in a LEGO house? Ah, but that's even nothing compared to all those cool fan-made LEGO Cube-dudes, the funny LEGO sculptures, LEGO graphic design books, LEGO music, crazy LEGO videoclips, LEGO interior designs and LEGO engineering projects. Even legendary graffiti artist Futura is switching his artistic medium to the world of LEGO.

It seems that everyone is hooked on blocks these days. The community of AFOL's is so big now that they can't be ignored anymore. They have their own fairs, tradeshows, clubs, contests, a brickpedia site and some even made it their full time profession of LEGO building. If you want to know more about this AFOL phenomenon then check out the fresh new documentary above. 'AFOL, a blockumentary' by Jess Gibson. Or go to one of the many LEGO fan blogs.  (via to Swurdin)

The State of The Internet, a fresh update for 2010.

I love these info graphic videos about the web and social media. Every half year someone comes up with this kind of presentation of videos. Within weeks they boom around the blogosphere and quickly end up in marketing presentations, pitches and courses. Always handy to convince clients to create bigger budget for their online activities.

Sometimes I wonder if all the facts and figures are correct, because those are really crazy numbers! 1.73 Billion internet users; 90 Trillion emails send in 2009; 234 million websites in December 2009; 126 million blogs (really?); 27.3 million tweets per day; 350 million people on Facebook and 260 billion Facebook pageview per month; 12.2 billion videos viewed on YouTube per month in the US alone; .... and the number show goes on & on until your completely numb.
Not convinced yet, mister client? What's the relevancy for your business? Euh, can we play the video again?

The Fuel Cell Car

Media_httpa248eakamai_enjgj

Those who know me, know that I've worked in the Hydrogen business for a while, untill it bored me to death... What I've seen is that fuel cell technology and the hydrogen technology is far from ready for mass production, and isn't even a real ecological solution just yet. To many energy is needed to first make the hydrogen that's needed to make energy again. Plus you are waisting a lot of valuable drinking water. So the technology still needs improvement, but it will get there once these issues are solved.

But if you are a strong believer and you can't wait to drive a real car with fuell cells? Then you must try out this kids experiment kit, a hands-on way to discover fuel cells. The kit is basically a car that uses solar power and a fuel cell to separate water into hydrogen and oxygen by electrolysis, and then runs on the resulting energy. Order your own for just $150 at hammacher.com

UPDATE: So the future of fuell cells is here after all. The Bloombox by Bloomenergy is a fuellcell that fits in a small shoebox but can power a complete house. This new type of fuell cell developed by K.R. Sridhar use biogas and air to create electricity, and is much cleaner and cheaper then normal energy. Bloomenergy just went public and already has big companies like Fed-ex, Wallmart, E-bay or Google testing it. See the video below. (Yes I'm a technology nerd sometimes. I know)

Blogger Wanted

No I don't need an extra blogger for this site. Blogger Wanted is a contest organised by Sony Belgium to hype their new creative videocamera, the Bloggie. They are looking for an enthousiast boarder/blogger to join them on the Mountain Hollywood snowboard trip and act as a VIP blogger. The selected blogger will also receive a brand new laptop and camera. So VOTE FOR ME as one of the candidates! Or join me in the contest.

The Mountain Hollywood trip is organised by my favourite Belgian snowboard clothing brand Private. The trip is also a contest where 5 snowboard teams will shoot for 5 days to make the best 3 minute snowboard video. The winners are included in the annual Private movie and get a free surftrip. hurray!
